Director Chandrakanth T, feels that the society should let the women be herself. We should nurture them and help them to make it big in life. That way they will be empowered. Checkout Chandrakanth’s thoughts on women empowerment.
What prompted you to make a film on women?
It was just that I wanted to make a film. Women were not on my mind then. I thought that if you see a film on women we will just see how they are oppressed with serious issues. Majority of the films deal with this. I wanted to deal with the simpler problems that they face. This could be happening in her own home or with her close ones. We may think that these are minor issues, but they are severe issues for them.
What is women empowerment according to you?
Women empowerment is a slow process. It cannot happen overnight. Infact women are already empowered. They have to accept this. We still see many women dream of achieving something, but are not able to. They should strive to attain this.
Could you relate to any instances where women were either celebrated or oppressed?
Oppression… yes I have seen this. I have seen a girl being eve teased by some 7-8 boys. She stumbled and that was depressing. This has hit me real hard. And the sad part was I could not do anything about this.
Tell us about personal women icons who made a difference to the society or to you?
My icons are women I see on a day to day basis. My women classmates, my teachers who are bold and made it big are my icons.
How should society go about enabling women to be empowered?
Let women be herself. Try to secure them and do not restrict them. Push them towards their goal and lift them in whatever they want to do.
